Join us on October 2nd for a Spirit Night Fudraiser at Chipotle at Southpark Meadows. When you eat dinner at Chipotle on the 2nd, 50% of the proceeds comes back to Blazier. This is a generous amount that the company is donating back, and we have the potential to raise a lot of money. Make dinner an easy decision and join us at Chipotle!! What a yummy way to support our school!
Blazier PTA has rescheduled the fall carnival from October 26th to November 2nd. There was an unforeseen conflict with the Texas Book Festival on the 26th.
The Texas Book Festival is an exciting festival with more than 200 live authors and illustrators providing demonstrations to children and families. Each year we take a bus of Blazier families out to the festival to enjoy the scene! PTA looked for this conflict when the carnival date was initially chosen in May. Unfortunately at that time the Texas Book Festival had not published their dates. PTA does not want to detract from families inspiring their children to read, so the date for the carnival was moved to the next Saturday, November 2nd. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused! I hope to see you at both the Texas Book Festival and the fall carnival!!
Attention Blazier Families!!! We would love for all of you to join us for our Kinder-5th grade "Back to School Night" this Thursday, September 12th from 6:00-7:30 pm. We know there is limited parking, so our faculty and staff will be parking in the back of the school this evening to open spaces for our families! This is an important event for parents to attend! Teachers will review crucial information about the school year and how you can best support your child! It's also a great way to find out how parents can become involved here at Blazier. PTA will have a booth to become a member (cash, check, or credit card) and provide more information on how to get involved.
DON'T FORGET.... students will receive a Principal's Homework Pass for attending! Hope to see you there!!
A big Blazier Thank You to Jim from the Texaco Station #354663 located at 8101 SALT SPRINGS DRIVE AUSTIN, TX 78744.
He surprised our staff with delicious pizzas on Friday! The pizzas were hot and fresh, and right in time for our teachers' lunch! They were a big hit!
If your family is in a hurry and you want something yummy to eat, stop by Texaco and grab a pizza from Jim!
The year has officially started! We had a WONDERFUL first two days of school! All of our Blue Jays came back refreshed from summer and ready to learn. I would like to thank our parents, teachers, and students for making these first two days run so smoothly!
We gained 5 new classroom teachers this year. To make space for all of our Blue Jays, we have made a few changes to morning assembly. This year we will open the doors between the cafeteria and the gym from 7:00- 7:40 am. Students will be seated in the following locations: Gym- first grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. Cafeteria- Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, second grade, and third grade. Teacher assistants and administrators will be on hand to make sure students know where to go in the morning. Please help us out by saying goodbye to your child in the "Hugs and Kisses Zone" by the front office. A Blazier staff member will help your child find their way into the cafeteria or gym.
Thanks for a great start of the 2013-2014 school year!!
As I prepare for the new school year, I wanted to share my philosophy on education. When I put my thoughts into words, I am drawn to this quote by Socrates:
Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.
This reminds me that our true purpose as educators is to help our students understand how to use their minds to think creatively, not to merely fill their brain with facts to memorize. We must inspire and ignite the fire of learning within our students, a fire that will kindle the embers of creativity and leave our students wanting to learn more. Each student who walks into Blazier comes with their mind full of “flames” or ideas that require only the right spark to maximize their learning. It is our charge to kindle those flames!
It’s going to be a great 2013-2014 School Year!
August is here, and the first day of school is right around the corner! As a mother of two, I know just how hectic this time of year can be. We have tried to make your back to school shopping a little easier by placing the Blazier 2013-2014 School Supply List on our home page, hard copies on our front door, and most surrounding stores should have a copy onsite as well. If you are out shopping and can't find the list, please call our front office at 512-841-8800 and we can fax it over to the store! Don't forget that this year's Tax Free Weekend is August 9th through the 11th. This is a great time to save some money on all your back to school shopping needs!
New student and Pre-K registration will take place August 12th- 16th from 8:00-4:00. Please check to make sure you have all necessary documents to make your registration process as easy as possible. Wednesday we will have extended evening hours to accommodate working families, and we will be open until 6:00 pm.
It's been a busy summer here at Blazier Elementary! We hosted our first ever summer school where Kinder, First, and Second grade Blue Jays attended an "Adventure in Reading" program. It was a great success and the students had a lot of fun while practicing essential reading skills!
Our campus has undergone a lot of physical changes as well. We have gained 5 new portables. They are located near the playground and track in the back of the school. The construction is well underway and should be finished in the next few weeks. Our track is also going to be repositioned and resurfaced. Along with these changes, Mr. John C. Blazier worked on beautifying our grounds. He added new landscaping and fresh paint to the parking lots. Our school is looking great and will be ready to receive our students!
I wanted to take the time to send a special thank you to the wonderful parents we have at Blazier Elementary! Whether it is supporting us through our many committees and organizations, attending school wide events, or just walking your child in every morning with a smile, Blazier parents fill our school with positive support! When families are involved student achievement improves, communication increases, teacher morale improves, and family to school connections multiply! As I reflect on the end of the year, I am amazed at all that we have accomplished together! I know none of it would have been possible without our fabulous parents so THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
With the end of the year in sight we are beginning to make our plans for the 2013-2014 school year. There will be many opportunities for continued parent involvement through our Campus Advisory Council and Parent/Teacher Association. If you are interested in learning more about these organizations and how you can become involved ask our front office staff for more information!
It has been a great 2012-2013 school year. With May in full swing, the end of the year is upon us. We have a lot of fun filled events to wrap up and celebrate the hard work our students have put in this school year. Please stay tuned in to our calendar page to make sure you don't miss out on the fun!
Our Cinco de Mayo Celebration was a great success. This is the first year we have taken on a Blazier Ballet Folklorico Club after school. We have 5 amazing groups led by teachers and parents. These groups, along with 1st and 2nd grade classrooms, performed at our annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration. The performance was filled with both traditional and modern songs and dances. We even received a special visit from the Crockett Mariachi Group on Friday!
Additionally, we have our Blazier Choir Musical and Blazier Talent show around the corner. We can't wait to see you there!
